Gov. Abbott announces bars can reopen October 14

Bars will be allowed to reopen at 50% capacity, and all other businesses can open to 75% capacity.

TEXAS, USA — Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced bars will be allowed to reopen beginning October 14.

Abbott made the announcement Tuesday afternoon in a live video on his Facebook page.

For Trauma Service Areas (TSAs) where COVID-19 hospitalizations are less than 15% of hospital capacity, a County Judge may authorize the opening of bars and similar establishments at 50% occupancy. 

If a County Judge authorizes the opening of these establishments, certain protocols must be followed, including all customers and employees wearing face coverings while not eating or drinking.

Tables must be limited to six customers or less, and all establishments must follow all local curfew guidelines.

Additionally, all counties where COVID-19 hospitalizations are less than 15% of hospital capacity can open all businesses other than bars to 75% capacity.

Abbott maintains that we must remain vigilant and show personal responsibility to protect ourselves and our loved ones from COVID-19.
