MIDLAND, Texas —
Community Worship Center teamed up with Tubby's Kitchen and Catering for Operation 500 on Saturday.
Operation 500 is an annual event by Community Worship Center where they go out and give out 500 free meals to the community.
"We've been doing this four years ever since Mayor Patrick Payton, when he was in office, asked for everyone to come together when the ice storm happened and feed the community. He wanted all the local pastors to find a way to feed the community and so we decided to do breakfast and everybody loved it so much that we started making it an annual thing," said Latoya Mayberry, co-pastor of Community Worship Center.
Tubby’s Kitchen was more than willing to volunteer their time to help cook all the meals given out.
“It’s important to be involved in this because any chance we’re able to give back, it’s always a blessing," said Tiara Jackson, owner of Tubby's Kitchen and Catering. "It’s just great to give back and I like to see people coming in here and volunteering and helping. If we can do it more often I’d love to do it more often.”
A blessing that many who volunteered today believe can benefit you just as much as it does others.
“We live in a world where we’re just thinking about us a lot," said Mark Ivan Gomez, head chef/owner of Gomez Catering. "Something about giving just opens up your heart, opens up your soul and you get to connect with somebody.”
Mayberry says that they plan to continue Operation 500 going for years to come and will also keep serving the community however they can.
