Upton County Sheriff's Office releases name of suspect arrested in connection to Tuesday's shooting

Cannon James Peoples was arrested Tuesday and charged with first degree murder.

MCCAMEY, Texas — The Upton County Sheriff's Office has released who was arrested in the McCamey shooting from Tuesday.

Cannon James Peoples was arrested in connection with the shooting on Tuesday. Peoples was charged with first degree murder and was booked in the Upton County LEC on Wednesday.

The Upton County Sheriff's Office has released a statement in reference to a shots fired incident that happened around 5:27 p.m. on Tuesday in McCamey, TX.

On Tuesday night, NewsWest 9 told you that Texas DPS confirmed the shooting occurred in the 300 block of West 6th St.

This shooting was close to the McCamey Annex, which forced it to temporarily close down as it was being used as a polling location. It was later opened back up and voting hours were extended to accommodate for the lost time.

Upton County Sheriff's Office tells NewsWest 9 that there was a deceased male found in front of a residence in that area.

An Upton County Sheriff said they identified a suspect quickly and took them into custody.
