MIDLAND - It's Cinco de Mayo and the Basin had several events to celebrate the Mexican victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla back in 1862.
The Hispanic Cultural Center celebrated with food and game booths in Midland.
But the Charlene McBride, Executive Director of the Center tells NewsWest 9, the celebration is more about teaching children the history and heritage of Hispanic culture.
"It's important because they need to understand their culture and they need to understand history. This was part of history and Mexico or Texas being so close to Mexico, it affects us in every way," McBride said.
