Lea County Sheriff’s Office arrests Hobbs man for murder

Investigators have arrested one man in connection with a suspicious death from April 1.

HOBBS, NM (KWES) - Lea County Sheriff’s Office have made an arrest in connection with a suspicious death from April 1.

Deputies responded to the death around 5:22 p.m. on April 1 in the area of North Pine Street and East Hardy Street. There they found a deceased male, identified later as Wilson M. Caldwell of Hobbs, New Mexico.

His body was about 50 miles away from the main road. His cause of death was determined to be from a gunshot wound.

Authorities located and arrested Albino A. Mendez-Solis, 30, who Caldwell was last seen with.

Investigators seized Mendez-Solis’s Black 2005 Ford Mustang that had evidence on the vehicle’s front driver side fender. Authorities also found a firearm inside.

Mendez-Solis is being held at the De Baca County Detention Center awaiting transport to Lea County. He is being held on no bond with an open count of murder.
