LEA COUNTY, NM (KWES) - Rico, Lea County Sheriff's Office K9, will receive a protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

Deputy Eddie Castillo says he and K9 Rico will be able to deploy with more confidence while on patrol.

Located in East Taunton, MA, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement throughout the United States.

Since its inception in 2009, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 2,800 protective vests, in 50 states.
