ODESSA, Texas — UPDATE: Five people have been arrested in connection to a shooting on 42nd Street and Andrews Highway Wednesday, according to OPD.
Those arrested include 2 unnamed juveniles, 18-year-old Keemadrick Sauls, of Midland, 19-year-old Ananius Williams, of Midland and 17-year-old Jason Ybarra, of Odessa.
OPD officers are concerned about the youthfulness of the five that were arrested, wondering if they understand the consequences to actions such as this.
"You know that’s a bad part about it is these younger kids, I don’t know if they don’t understand the consequences of their actions on what they’re doing and when they pull that trigger and shoot somebody," Scottie Smith, a sergeant with OPD, said.
One other concern the officers had was that the shooting occurred in broad daylight on a busy street.
"It’s a huge concern," Smith said. "There was a couple schools that are over in that area. There’s a lot of traffic that travel up and down 42nd and Andrews Highway. People going to McDonald’s, the gas station right there, going to Denny’s, and people just start wildly shooting shots off. Anybody could get hurt."
Those arrested have been charged with engaging in organized criminal activity and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
No injuries were reported and the investigation continues.
