CARLSBAD, N.M. — A person died in a crash on April 24 in Carlsbad, New Mexico, after a metal grouser bar went through the windshield, severely injuring the driver, according to the Carlsbad Police Department.
According to a media release, the accident happened at 12:10 p.m. at 5000 National Parks Highway.
Law enforcement and emergency personnel were the ones who responded to the accident that resulted in injuries.
After law enforcement and emergency vehicles responded to the scene and conducted an investigation, the investigation revealed that a metal grouser bar pierced the front windshield of a car and injured the driver severely.
The driver later died despite emergency personnel trying to save the driver.
According to the City of Carlsbad on Wednesday, May 1, the grouser bar was identified as a Dura-Tuff boron alloy steel bar. These grouser bars are used in railroad, construction, welding and other industrial applications. According to the city, the circled bar below is the most consistent with the Carlsbad police's evidence.
According to CPD Lieutenant Allen Perez, something was not secured on the car at the time of the accident.
