SCURRY COUNTY - Authorities have confirmed that the remains that were found last month in Scurry County are indeed those of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn.
Authorities made the announcement during a brief press conference on Friday afternoon and authorities did not take any questions during the conference.
NewsWest 9 first learned of the discovery about the remains from Billie Dunn's Attorney, John Young.
Back on March 16, authorities were notified of the remains that were located near Lake J.B. Thomas in southwest Scurry County. The remains were then sent to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification for DNA analysis. Authorities were notified on Friday about the discovery.
Hailey's Mother, Billie Dunn, has been notified and is currently in Austin. She will be traveling to Scurry County in the next 24-36 hours to plan the funeral for Hailey.
The exact of cause of death is still under investigation.
Reaction to the findings are hitting social media, the organization "Hope For Hailey" posted a statement on their Facebook page saying, "Thank you for all of your prayers and hope for the last two years and four months that you have sent to our beautiful Hailey. Hailey was found in Scurry County last month and the Texas Rangers called her mom a little while ago and confirmed this. Please, please pray for Hailey's family and friends. Please pray Hailey receives the justice she deserves. Thank you all for being here and loving Hailey and becoming a part of precious legacy. Rest in peace sweet baby girl, we all love you so much Hailey."
