4 killed in Dawson County crash

DPS says the driver of the truck failed to yield right of way to the semi-truck at the intersection.

DAWSON COUNTY, Texas — Four people are dead and another person is injured following a crash seven miles south of Lamesa.

The crash took place just before 9 a.m. on May 27.

A preliminary cash report from DPS states that a truck driven by Jonathan Lawhorn of Louisiana was traveling west on County Road 24 approaching a stop sign.

A semi-truck driven by an Odessa man was driving down State Highway 349 at the same time.

According to DPS, Lawhorn failed to yield the right of wait to the semi-truck at the intersection and collided with the second vehicle.

The driver of the semi-truck was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock.

Lawhorn and the three other passengers of his truck were pronounced dead at the scene. DPS says none of the four men were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Authorities have identified the men killed in the crash as Jimmy Snipes, 42, of Newton, Texas; Colt Atkins, 33, of Graham, Texas; Taylor Bryce, 25, of Center, Texas.

The crash is still under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
