MIDLAND, Texas — Icy winter weather is hitting the Basin, and while you should make sure to stay warm, your home also needs some protection.
Pipes are especially at risk in extreme winter temperatures.
But there are a few steps you can take to keep your pipes safe.
First off, open your cabinet doors to let warm air into those under sink areas.
Also, let your faucets drip overnight to keep water running through them.
Don’t let your home temperature drop below 55⁰ F.
If you have any foundation vents, make sure to close them.
Pipes can also be at risk if they are near an outer wall or in crawl spaces or attics.
Sealing any air leaks and disconnecting garden hoses could also help keep your pipes in good shape.
