TEXAS, USA — The El Nino weather pattern that's currently in place is expected to continue through the end of winter. This should result in us receiving above average rainfall and possibly below average temperatures through the rest of February.
However, this pattern won't last forever as changes are soon expected to begin across the Pacific Ocean.
Models are predicting that El Nino slowly dissolves as we progress into spring. This is due to the migration of warm waters in the equatorial Pacific moving from off the coast of South America, into the central Pacific. A push further east, towards Asia, would result in a La Nina which has a 55% chance of developing by Summer.
These changes could have some significant implications to our weather. As the neutral phase begins, rainfall should start to become less and less frequent.
By Summer, if La Nina develops, there's a good chance that we enter a warmer and drier period that could last well into winter of 2024 and 2025.
