MIDLAND, Texas — Wednesday marks the one year anniversary The Field's Edge in Midland opened its doors to the homeless, and their little community is thriving!
The Field's Edge is a community of small homes aimed to help the homeless get back on their feet.
Since it started, they've seen how much their small community has grown, but mostly how their neighbors are actually growing as people.
"We designed this place to facilitate community because we believe that the route of homelessness is caused by that disconnect from community [and] from family when something bad happens and there's no support system," CEO and Co-Founder of The Field's Edge John-Mark Echols said. "Conceptually we were able to do that in the design. This year we've gotten to do it and gotten to see that [with] people becoming neighbors and becoming friends."
The Field's Edge Village sits on 23 and a half acres in Southwest Midland.
Eventually, the goal is to have 90 homes for the chronically homeless and 10 homes for residents who live on site voluntarily to help with the mission.
