ODESSA, Texas — More celebrations went on for the Juneteenth holiday on Friday night in Odessa. It was the Miss Juneteenth Pageant hosted by the Black Cultural Council of Odessa.
NewsWest 9's Sydnee Jolivette joined last year's winner Jamilla Kechah as a judge for the pageant.
As a former winner, Kechah had some advice for this year's contestants and also talked about the honor of being a part of crowning the next winner.
"All that I can say is just have fun and be confident. Just don't show fear. Just have fun and really be yourself," Kechah said. "I think it's a really big honor that I'm able to come back and watch these girls put together a beautiful show and able to celebrate the meaning behind Juneteenth."
