West Texas law enforcement, veterans enjoy barbecue appreciation event

At the event, people had the chance to eat a free meal, shake hands and get to know one another.

MIDLAND, Texas — On Monday, Aug. 19, law enforcement and veterans from all over West Texas gathered to enjoy some delicious BBQ and a little appreciation.

A group of people from Georgia contacted Midland County Sheriff David Criner about a month ago. The group said they wanted to do a BBQ for all the people who serve the country and the community out in the Permian Basin.

Midland officers were glad to feel appreciated, especially by the community and people outside the community.

"It's just the support and I always brag about West Texas...how we are very unique out here. It's just good to know that there are people out here that you don't feel appeciated sometimes, these guys give you that little adrenaline and give you that, 'we care for you. we know that you are out there doing a hard job and we appreciate you,'" Sheriff Criner said. "That speaks volume for us and gives us that little go to keep on going each day."
