Ector County breaks ground on renovation project at Kellus Turner Park

"The kids really owned this," said Ector County ISD Superintendent Dr. Scott Muri.

ODESSA, Texas — A renovation project for Kellus Turner Park broke ground on Friday.

The park has sat mostly under-developed for many years. Now, thanks to the hard work of residents, ECISD and kids, they were able to clean up the park and plan out the renovation.

Odessa students even got to vote on and pick out the playground equipment they wanted to see at the new park.

"The kids really owned this.," said Ector County ISD Superintendent Dr. Scott Muri. "The county selected some options that were within their budget. They brought those to students and students go to look at all those options and picked the one that they thought would be best for them. So they were very excited. They've got a lot of skin in the game because they'll ultimately be the users of these tools so it's a good opportunity for them."

As well as a new playground, friends of Kellus Turner Park plan to add pavilions, a splash park and a baseball field to the area.
