Midland Humane Coalition moving to a new location

The new facility will be along Business 20 and allow MHC to house more animals.

MIDLAND, Texas — The Midland Humane Coalition will be making the move from the inside of a PetSmart to a new facility along Business 20.

“When we started 13 years ago, obviously we were a foundational organization and we didn't have a lot of resources and through years and years, almost 13 years of generous donations and support, we've been able to see this dream realized to have a standalone facility that can service our community,” said Jessica Southern, president of the board for MHC.

Southern said the new location will allow MHC to serve the animals in the West Texas community better than ever.

“So, we can currently at [the new] facility house 60 dogs and 30 cats, which clearly, we were not able to do at the previous location," Southern said. "The other thing this one allows us is that rather than having two staffs where we're spread a little thin, we can really focus our efforts in one location which really improves our efficiency as an organization, and I think it's a better use of our donors' dollars.”

However, none of this could’ve been possible without the Midland community’s support, and she said they won't let any of that support go to waste.

“I'm incredibly excited and a little, I want to say, a little bit proud of this community and this organization for really pulling together and making this happen," Southern said. "I think what you can expect from the Midland Humane Coalition is to see us out and about a lot more.”

Southern said they hope to have the new facility up and running by this September.
