MIDLAND, Texas — A group of high school students at Midland Trinity have teamed up with the West Texas Food Bank to help raise awareness in the fight against food insecurity.
Ten Trinity High School students created a Junior Board with the food bank.
These teenagers want to lead kids their age and even middle school students across West Texas towards the path of volunteering.
"We cover such a large area out here, but not all of it can be done just through adults, right," WTFB Junior Board President Brock McNeel said. "There's a lot of youth and we're pretty young part of the country, especially in Midland, there's a lot of kids here. A lot of people come in and out because the oil business and that goes true for all 19 counties that we serve. So she (the WTFB president) wanted to get the youth presence out there to kind of spread awareness about the food bank's mission."
McNeel said the Junior Board wants to expand to reach across the 19 counties the West Texas Food Bank serves.
The Junior Board was first introduced in October of 2023 and the group is working to raise at least $30,000 in their first year.
