Red Cross volunteer in Monahans, who helped in Ruidoso, helping with Hurricane Beryl relief

NewsWest 9 spoke with the Permian Basin Red Cross on how they deploy volunteers to weather impact areas.

MONAHANS, Texas — A Permian Basin Red Cross volunteer out of Monahans left Thursday morning to help with Hurricane Beryl relief.

NewsWest 9 spoke with the Permian Basin Red Cross Executive Director Tracy Austin, who told NewsWest 9 that they closely monitor weather conditions to ensure they're prepared to deploy.

"We have 24 hour monitoring and and it's nationwide there's a call every morning. It's called a sync call and everybody gets In Sync. So they have a call every morning to talk about threats and issues that might arise and then they watch it through the day they send out information to us so that we're aware locally how we can help and what we need to be aware of so that we can address that," said Austin.

The volunteer who left West Texas actually just got back from Ruidoso to help with the wildfires.
