'Love Without Limits' holds 6th annual prom for people with special needs

The prom is held at Stonegate Fellowship Church and offers many with special needs a chance at having a prom night for the first time.

MIDLAND, Texas — The 6th annual "Love Without Limits" gala was held Friday at Stonegate Fellowship Church, just days before Valentine's Day.

Love Without Limits is a prom night held for people with special needs, and it gives many of them a chance to experience prom for the first time in their lives.

Participants enter into the main church building before picking up their crown. After taking photos with their dates, the participants walk outside and are greeted by a line of people cheering them on as they go to prom.

It's not just dancing they get to enjoy, as Love Without Limits has a whole host of activities.

“Every participant is called the king or queen, they're crowned the king or queen," Event Organizer Ami Hedges said. "They just have a great night dancing, riding the limousine, horse carriages and of course karaoke."

For many with special needs, Love Without Limits is their first ever prom experience. Love Without Limits is hoping to do more for them then just a single prom.

“The special needs community is one of the most unreached people group, isn't that crazy?," Hedges said. "We need to get awareness of not just doing one event, but to be out in the community serving because there's wonderful opportunities to serve the special needs community.”

It means so much more to not just those with special needs, but to the parents who get to see their children have a night they won’t forget.

It's something parents thank Hedges for: making their child feel special and seen on a night they'll never forget.

“You see my kid and you love them," Hedges said. "We have some of them that are in their 70's, if you think about that, that this is their first prom experience. So many of the participants, they've been here from the get go. So the parents are just so thankful."
