4th of July celebration goes on at the Brown Dorsey House

Midlanders got to celebrate the holiday at the oldest house in Midland.

MIDLAND, Texas — Some Midlanders celebrated Independence Day with a little bit of history, at the oldest house in Midland, the Brown Dorsey House.

A man by the name of Zachary Brown built it in 1899 and right after moved in with his family.

His daughter, Sara Brown Dorsey, was married at the home and lived there until it was sold in the late 60's.

The community in Midland got to take a dive into history, seeing how people lived back in the day.

Instead of an electric stove or refrigerator, there was a gas stove and ice box.

Instead of the kids on phones or IPads, they played games outside.

"Well, it reminds me a little bit not that I went back to the early 1900's, but people my age as children, played games like this and certainly our grandparents may have lived at homes like this," said Margaret Wade, a volunteer for Midland Historical Society. "It just sorta brings back fond, happy memories."

If anyone is interested in a tour, go to the society's website or Facebook page for upcoming tour dates and more events at the home.
