MIDLAND, Texas — Right before Christmas Eve, the Mt. Moria Disciples of Christ Church in Midland gave back to their community to help those that could use a friendly hand.
To Pastor Dennis Hodge, giving back is an important part of the Christmas season.
“I was born and raised in this community and having a church over here, I see where a lot of people are struggling," Hodge said. "I got people here in my church where both parents are working jobs and still struggling to pay stuff like rent.”
Hodge understood growing up what it was like not to have much, so he and the church wanted to help make things different for others in their area.
Not only were families that came to the church provided with free food, but they were also provided with free bikes for the children.
That way they don’t have to make tough decisions on how to spend their money around the holidays.
“Right about this time of year they’re trying to decide whether to buy food or medicine or get a toy for the kids," Hodge said. "So Jesus taught us to love and so it’s just a part of showing the love of Jesus.”
Hodge wants the community to know that no one is ever truly alone and that there are others who care.
“Well I hope that they can see Jesus in this situation because without him we’re nothing and that’s what it’s all about," Hodge said. "It’s not about me or my church, we’re just trying to show the love of Jesus and let people know that there are people that care about them. That people care about their struggle and want to be here to help them.”
