ANDREWS, Texas — The Permian Regional Medical Center in Andrews on Wednesday held a free car seat inspection to ensure every car seat is meeting safety criteria.
If the car seat is not installed correctly, parents can get fined.
"There's a lot of factors that go into a seat being installed correctly. Sometimes they're rear facing and its supposed to be forward facing or its forward facing and its supposed to be rear facing. Sometimes they're using the seatbelt with the latches or it should just be one or the other," said Patti Espinosa, director of Life Center of Andrews. "We see a lot of misuse. 90 percent of the time car seats are not installed correctly or children are not in a correct car seat. So educating and being available for our community is important."
Espinosa went on to say that, "children are our priority to make sure they're safe that's the only way you can do it is educating yourself to make sure you're doing it correctly."
If anyone missed the event on Wednesday, call the Life Center in Andrews or Permian Regional Medical Center's Labor and Delivery Department.
