MIDLAND, Texas — The founder of Midland-based Endeavor Energy Resources, Autry Stephens, passed away at age of 86 on Friday, the company said in a press release.
Stephens founded a sole proprietorship in 1979 that grew into the company that it is now today, Endeavor Energy Resources, according to their website.
"To those closest to Autry, he is remembered as a Top Hand, Wildcatter, Oil and Gas Hall of Famer, and dear friend who will always be known for his humility, courage, determination, and resiliency," the release stated.
Stephens started his career in the oil and gas industry in 1962 by working for the Humble Oil and Refining Company.
According to the release, a few months later, the DeLeon, Texas native joined the Army Corps of Engineers and served as a lieutenant and platoon leader, who was responsible for pipeline fuel installations.
Stephens then rejoined Humble for five years then left the company to move to Midland.
"Autry’s move to Midland would forever change the Permian Basin," the release stated.
Endeavor's Vice Chairman, Lyndal Stephens Greth, will assume Stephens' role as chairman on Endeavor's Board of Managers.
