City of Odessa remembers former Mayor Larry Melton

ODESSA, Texas — Former Odessa Mayor Larry Melton passed away Monday at the age of 86. 

He was the longest-serving mayor of Odessa, serving from 2001 to 2012.

The obituary by Sunset Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home Odessa stated that Melton died after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Below is a statement from current Mayor Javier Joven about Melton's legacy:

"We recently lost an Odessa legend, former Mayor Larry Melton. 

Mayor Melton will always hold the distinction of being Odessa's longest-serving Mayor. His dedication to public service and his gentle demeanor made him a beloved figure in the community. Serving from 2001 to 2012, Mayor Melton was not only a leader but also a military veteran, having served in the United States Army. 

He leaves behind a legacy that we can all strive to achieve, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. May Mr. Melton rest in peace, knowing that he made a lasting impact on the city of Odessa." - Javier Joven, Odessa mayor
