MIDLAND, Texas — The first Athena Space Home is located at JJC RV Park (1508 N County Rd. 1130) and appeared to arrive some time during the week of New Year's Day.
According to Co-Founder Janice Jensen, the smart homes are a way "to give West Texans a smart, futuristic and affordable home with views to connect with nature.”
Athena Space Homes is also working with the Midland Development Corporation. According to MDC Director Sara Harris, they had “one introductory meeting” with the team.
There are some RV homes and businesses that neighbor this smart home.
Neighbors in the area say they “weren’t sure what it was when they saw it but are interested to see how it turns out.”
A worker at a nearby business told NewsWest 9 that when she noticed it, she said “wow that looks cool.”
According to the Athena Space Homes website, the founders said they noticed a shift in people wanting to have less but connect with nature and be free from large mortgage payments.
They are offering homes starting at $54,995.
The homes offer a ultra low energy thermal insulation system, panoramic double glazed windows, bathroom, A/C and all-in-one run from your phone or the wall control system.
