Midland College gets new truck for Commercial Driving Program classes

Midland Development Corporation and Permian Basin Workforce Development Board donated a Peterbilt truck and nearly $90,000 in scholarships to the program.

MIDLAND, Texas — Midland College's Commercial Driving Program can keep on trucking after receiving a big donation.

The Midland Development Corporation and Permian Basin Workforce Development Board donated a Peterbilt truck and nearly $90,000 in scholarships to the program.

The courses are a part of MC's Career and Technical Training Program.

Transportation plays a big role in the Permian Basin's economy, so investment in safe drivers is a must.

"We understand the importance of transportation training in the Permian Basin," said Jennifer Myers, associate VP of workforce management and development. "So to ensure we have the most current and up to date equipment for students to train on, and so adding a new truck to our fleet helps our students, helps our community and train a reliable workforce."

With the help of grants like these, 20 students have been able to go through the program absolutely free.
