Midland County projecting to save $4.3 million on insurance

A change in employee benefits will help save the county money annually.

MIDLAND COUNTY, Texas — Employees who work for Midland County could be seeing better insurance benefits on the horizon, which would be saving the county a hefty amount of money.

On Wednesday, during a special meeting, Midland County Commissioners' Court approved recommendations to change employee benefit packages after they received a presentation from Holmes Murphy.

The presentation talked about the employee benefits from medical, dental, life and vision.

Holmes Murphy also talked about the work that has been done to talk to every carrier which could provide county employees the best benefit.

"My team has been spending over a year working on all of the contract negotiating all the pieces that go into that and it was a lot to present to the court," said Jeff Hughes, vice president of employee benefits for Holmes Murphy. "I think they might have got tired after a while because there's so much data. But I think when they saw the total savings, it was pretty, it was pretty well received. That $4.3 million is a lot of money."

The county would be saving $4.3 million annually over the next three to five years.
