Two donations help to get renovations for Midland Fire Department

At the Midland City Council meeting, MEC Petroleum donated $40,000 while Chevron donated a little more than $130,000.

MIDLAND, Texas — The Midland Fire Department is getting some renovations thanks to donations from MEC Petroleum Corporation and Chevron, the announcement came Tuesday at Midland City Council.

MEC Petroleum donated $40,000 while Chevron donated a little more than $130,000.

The money will be used for some improvement to the Central Fire Station on West Wall St., along with a new wellness center for the firefighters to work in.

"It'll give us a cleaner, more state of the art place to work out, be healthier, be stronger, fitter [and] help prevent cardiovascular diseases for our firefighters," Landy Adkins with the Midland Fire Department said. "Hopefully be better at our jobs, live longer into retirement and be overall healthier."

MFD will also get some new equipment like the Lucas Machine, which is a mechanical CPR machine that will help save patient's lives.

Chevron's donation will go towards the Lucas Machine while MEC's will go towards buying new equipment testing apparatuses.

City council also approved funds for renovations to Midland Police Department alongside Central Fire Station.
