Big Spring residents come together during water issues

While the City of Big Spring stepped in to help residents with water, the residents also came together to help each other.

BIG SPRING, Texas — The northside of Big Spring has been dealing with water issues during the week of Jan. 15, but the city and residents are ensuring that no one goes without water.

Residents got some relief Thursday in the form of water distribution centers.

One water distribution spot was at Fire Station #1 and the other at the Big Spring Housing Authority's Office.

Both locations offered residents cases of drinking water, with the fire station location also offering water for non-drinking purposes like showers and washing dishes.

However, it’s not just the city helping them out. The community itself has come together.

“We have family and friends reaching out to us, ‘Hey do y’all need water?’ Or ‘What do ya’ll need?’," Big Spring resident Nicole Johnson said. "So, we have plenty of people in our little community and our close circle helping us out. Everybody does what they can to help each other out and I think that’s a beautiful thing.”

Even if neighbors aren’t in a position to help one another, even just knowing that someone else is thinking about another person's wellbeing makes a difference.

“It’s a beautiful thing when the community comes together when something like this does happen and they’re willing to step in, ‘Oh, let me see what I can do to help.’ Or even just a phone call is nice if they can’t help, just to make sure everything is fine,” Johnson said.

While it’s great for residents to know the city is willing to help, it’s even better to know their neighbors are as well.
