Big Spring YMCA breaks ground on Teen and Youth Center

The project has been in the works for a few years, but now it's finally coming to fruition.

BIG SPRING, Texas — Thursday was a big day for the YMCA in Big Spring.

They finally broke ground on their new Teen and Youth Center.

The new building will be state of the art as well.

There will be an arcade, a place to skate and paint and even places for homework or reading.

NewsWest 9 has been told they'll have just about anything you can think of.

The project has been in the works for a few years, but now it's finally coming to fruition.

"This project started with no money, but we knew the cause was greater than the dollar and the cause is the future of the youth in our community," said Dathan Jones, CEO of Big Spring YMCA. "We're trying to create a positive cycle of change. That's why there was no giving up. That's why we kept pushing and pushing and the good lord put the right pieces in place to get the right results."

The center is expected to have late hours. NewsWest 9 has been told the hours will be 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. It is so teens have a safe place to go after school.
