'We've come a long way' | State Rep. Brooks Landgraf provides update on Permian Basin Containers aftermath site

Landgraf said TCEQ's statewide director of compliance and enforcement visited Odessa on Monday to check on the remediation progress at the site.
The blaze at Permian Basin Containers has left residue on the property of residents. The TCEQ is investigating as air quality and water issues persist.

ODESSA, Texas — State Representative Brooks Landgraf took to social media on Wednesday night to provide an update on the Permian Basin Containers site amid the aftermath of the July 23 large structure fire.

Below is the update Landgraf posted on his social media:

"On Monday, TCEQ’s statewide director of compliance and enforcement visited Odessa to check on the remediation progress at the site. I met him there, and his main message to the remediation crew is that the clean-up work needs to happen faster, and the remaining burned-out structures on site (where most of the flare-ups start) need to be demolished.

In the meantime, a berm has been constructed to minimize runoff from the firefighting operations.

Soil remediation has resumed in the residential areas near the site. Soil is being staged for disposal and crews continue to dig around impacted fence lines. Pumping activities at the runoff water pit are still underway.

TCEQ has also required the site owner to submit a full remediation plan by this coming Friday.

In another development, as was widely reported in the news this week, many of the neighborhood’s residents and business owners have filed suit against the site owner.

I will continue to be engaged on this until things are back to normal for the people in this part of Ector County." - State Representative Brooks Landgraf via Facebook
