2 CASA of West Texas volunteers sworn in

The volunteers, Brandon Nall and Kelly Tieu, will help support children in the foster care system.

MIDLAND, Texas — Two new members of the community, Brandon Nall and Kelly Tieu, were sworn in as CASA of West Texas volunteers in Midland on Monday.

The new members will help support children in the foster care system.

They are the voice for abused children in court and dedicate themselves to a case until the child finds a forever home.

The two volunteers have gone through 39 hours of pre-service training to prepare them for when they start advocating for the kids.

Cases usually last about a year, with volunteers spending about five to seven hours a month on each case.

"So what our volunteers do is they walk along side children in the foster care system," said Ariel Sanchez, a volunteer recruiter for CASA of West Texas. "They volunteer for their best interest and help them while they're in foster care."

CASA volunteers go through an online application, interview process and training. They just need to pass a background check with the FBI and CPS.
