ODESSA, Texas — Everyone has a way for saying thank you but what about having a day dedicated to you as a way of thanks?
That's what the City of Odessa did, saying thank you for one chef.
Wednesday was known as Chef Alejandro Day and to celebrate the special occasion, Chef Alejandro put on his own event to continue his work of giving back to the community.
"Last year was [the] first year I actually got honored and the chef proclaimed October 11th Chef Alejandro Day," Curbside Bistro Owner Alejandro Barrientos said. "That day I was like, 'Man, we have to do something we have to put on for the city,' [So we] went through like a food truck party, an event or something like that. So I reached out to Sister Dough and she plans these markets all the time. I said, 'Hey, let's do something for the community'."
Chef Barrientos went onto say how an event like that not only brings in community members, but also gives small businesses a time to shine.
"It's super important to showcase and highlight small mom and pop shops. You got the spirit of entrepreneurs [and] you see people with their kiddos out here [or] with their husband and wives," Chef Barrientos said. "Everybody that's out here, they're putting their passion into something, whether it be clothes or art, their cakes [or] cookies. So it's really great to see that."
If you weren't able to make it out on Wednesday, Chef Barrientos is already cooking up an event for next Oct. 11.
