WEST ODESSA, Texas — The Ector County Utility District held a public meeting in West Odessa Wednesday night.
On the agenda was Kellus Turner Park and a proposal to raise taxes and water rates.
At the meeting, the ECUD Board of Directors voted to abolish the M-and-O Tax, which is a tax for maintenance and operation for water in the district.
Even though this tax only applies to people who live in the ECUD district, ECUD General Manager Debbie Hays told NewsWest 9 that this is something that was needed to ease the burden of inflation.
"With the rate of inflation that we have now and what the cost of what a gallon of milk used to cost or a dozen eggs used to cost, we feel that in our own homes as well," Hays said. "So we want to make sure that the individuals and residents that use Ector County Utility District water, that our customers that we are transparent and fair to them."
Ector County will soon hold a commissioners' court meeting to decide on what the tax rate will be for all of Ector County.
