ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — Emergency services was the hot topic Friday night during a Town Hall in south Ector County.
Ector County Judge Dustin Fawcett and Precinct 4 County Commissioner Billy Hall talked to residents about creating an emergency service district. It would add permanent staffing and professional services by levying about $9 million through a property tax increase.
"In the 340 of these throughout the entire state, it's often times that property tax increase is offset by the insurance, the ISO rating discount," Judge Fawcett said. "So, people's homeowners insurance - actually - they are discounted much more than they are paying more in property tax. So they save more money than what they're paying."
The county is holding several meetings about this topic.
Judge Fawcett hopes by connecting with the community about the district and its importance for the area, voters may be willing to see it on the ballot in May.
