HOWARD COUNTY, Texas — On Monday, Howard County commissioners did a walkthrough of the Dora Roberts Howard County Library. While there have been a few renovations in the past, this time around the focus is on a cosmetic revamp.
"We want to make it a pleasant place for people to come [to]," said Howard County Judge Randy Johnson. "We want it to be attractive for them and to be used by the folks and Howard County."
The focus is more than just on attractiveness. The focus is on stability as well.
"It needs to be easily cleaned," Judge Johnson said. "It needs to be something that, as when we do these projects that they can last for a while and stay in in good shape and be appealing over the long haul."
One of the key points in the renovation is to make the library more user friendly.
"The technology does need to be integrated into libraries in this day and age, so how that is done, we've got the computers we'd like them to be in a different place," Judge Johnson said.
Judge Johnson wants the library to be as comfortable as possible for people of all ages.
"Not just that I found a comfortable chair, but I mean, if you need a quiet place that we've got a spot for a quiet, you know, research paper that you might be writing for college or whatever it may be," Judge Johnson said. "If you need to be here with younger children and they need to and so we’re handling both of those."
While the new look of the library may not be crystal clear, the vision for the community is set in stone.
"That's what we love, right," Judge Johnson said. "We want the community to say, hey, we had some input in this, and we got what we thought needed to come out of the process."
