Joint town hall meeting in Odessa to address community issues

A town hall meeting was held in Odessa with speakers from Medical Center Hospital and Odessa College.

ODESSA, Texas — A joint town hall meeting was held Tuesday night to discuss issues in the community with speakers from Medical Center Hospital (MCH) and Odessa College (OC).

The meeting touched on a number of different topics ahead of the November election.

OC is looking to transform the school through six key projects designed for what they say is to "meet the evolving priorities of students, local industries, and the broader Odessa community."

MCH is asking voters to approve the increase of Ector County's Hospital District tax cap from 15 cents to 75 cents to help with emergency service in the area.

"These are the people that right now it takes the longest for them to get to an emergency room. So not only does it affect them in their healthcare, but it also affects everybody inside the city limits because it will lower their taxes," said Russel Tippin, President/ CEO of MCH. "We know what's going on with our fire and EMS OFR, they are doing all they can do, and we want to find a way to help get services out to this part of Ector County faster, efficiently. Support Chief Cotton, support the city, support the county."
