MIDLAND, Texas — During an Animal Services Advisory Commission meeting on Monday, Midland Animal Services Manager Melissa Griffin-Hobson stated that she was looking to change the days on which the shelter would close, according to a press release from the City of Midland.
If approved by the city manager's office, the shelter would close Sundays and Wednesdays instead of Sundays and Mondays, starting April 1.
According to the media release, Griffin-Hobson said the change in shelter closures will have two benefits:
- Deep cleaning takes place when the shelter is closed, and the new schedule will allow for the City of Midland to get more out of its deep cleaning efforts by spreading out the days deep cleaning takes place.
- The shelter will not be closed on Monday following the weekend and that will benefit animals and owners if an animal was picked up over the weekend.
The City of Midland says the advisory commission fully supported the recommended change in schedule.
The new schedule is expected to begin on April 1.
