Midland Salvation Army to host resource fair for homeless

The resource fair brings various local non-profits together to help the homeless in the Midland community.

MIDLAND, Texas — The Midland Salvation Army resource fair on Thursday is an opportunity to meet with other nonprofits and learn about what services they provide.

This is for anyone who needs help getting back on their feet but isn't sure where to start.

However, the Salvation Army will also be carrying out their "Point in Time" count that day.

The count gives a snapshot of a community’s homelessness problem, as well as what steps can be taken to address it.

"We're trying to find out how many people are out there and are homeless, and I'm not talking just about homeless as not having a house; they're unsheltered," Midland Salvation Army Social Worker Elsa Romero said. "People that are living in the streets they come in and we want to make sure that they know that there are resources out there for them."

As Romero said, being homeless isn’t just people living in the streets.

There are other kinds of situations they can be in and still be considered homeless.

“You’re talking about also the ones that are staying at a shelter or staying with a family member because they don’t have a home," Romero said. "Those are homeless people.”

The resource fair is happening Thursday at the Midland Salvation Army, which is on 600 East Wall St. in Midland.

MSA will be out there from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lunch will be provided for free between 12 p.m. and 12:45 p.m.
