The Texas Department of Transportation says Odessa and Midland, TX. are "respectively" ranked #1 and #2 in the State of Texas for having the most fatality and serious injury crashes caused by alcohol-impaired driving.
In Odessa, according to a graphic provided by TxDOT, shows that 279 crashes happened in 2022, 19 resulted in fatalities and 153 people were injured in crashes.
From 2020 to 2022, the numbers in some areas have gone down.
In Midland, it continues to go up.
TxDOT reports that Midland had 306 crashes in 2022, 35 fatalities and 141 people injured. All as a result of alcohol-impaired driving.
In 2021, there were 265 crashes, 10 fatalities and 123 injuries.
To help prevent alcohol-impaired driving possibly resulting in serious crashes, TxDOT is partnering with Standard Sales, MADD and Uber to offer discounted rides for those who may need one. This starts on Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. and continues until midnight on Oct. 21. Quantities are limited.
