ODESSA, Texas — Quorum Health, which currently operates Big Bend Regional Medical Center, has acquired Odessa Regional Medical Center (ORMC) and Scenic Mountain Medical Center (SMMC) in Big Spring, according to Marketing Coordinator for ORMC, Angelica Valenzuela, in a press release on Thursday.

Since September, subsidiaries were doing the day-to-day operations for both hospitals. Now, Quorum Health has bought them out.

“This acquisition marks a significant milestone in our journey to stabilize our hospitals," said Stacey Brown, CEO of ORMC and SMMC. “Our team has worked alongside Quorum Health over the past month to understand the much-needed capital improvements and how to best support us in caring for patients while enhancing quality and patient experience. This marks a new chapter for our communities, positioning us for growth and helping us to provide the care our region needs and deserves. Reaching this milestone is a significant step toward advancing healthcare in West Texas.”

Valenzuela said Quorum Health, with the new acquisition, has expanded its network overall to 12 affiliated hospitals across the country.

“Odessa Regional and Scenic Mountain share an almost 50-year legacy caring for West Texans – welcoming babies, caring for grandparents, healing broken bones – and we recognize the immense responsibility we have in continuing that legacy,” said Chris Harrison, CEO of Quorum Health. “We’re committed to building and enhancing quality care in Odessa and Big Spring and employing the dedicated caregivers who make it all possible.”

According to Valenzuela, all employees who work for the two hospitals will stay in their current positions and continue with a "competitive total rewards package in the coming year."

Valenzuela said transition efforts are in full swing and there should not be disruptions in patients' care.
