West Texans come together to help Ruidoso wildfire victims

As of June 19, the wildfires have burned more than 20,000 acres of land. Here's a list of places in the Permian Basin that are accepting fire relief donations.

ODESSA, Texas — Clusters of fire have ravaged through parts of Ruidoso, New Mexico, a village of nearly 8,000 people that were forced to evacuate and abandon their homes

It's a somber reminder for many West Texans, that it takes a village to recover and rebuild.

"It's time to show that Texans love them, Texas cares about them. God loves them as well," said Jon Stuart, the youth leader at Purpose Church in Odessa.

On June 19, the church garnered as many donations to deliver them to Roswell, New Mexico, using one of the members' personal trailers.

Meanwhile, small businesses like Amani's Mobile Services LLC, made their way to Ruidoso with donated items and a horse trailer to help relocate livestock.

A coalition of Permian Basin businesses have decided to band together to support families and business in the Ruidoso area. They are seeking donations including water, non-perishable food and other supplies that may provide fire relief.
