'It just works for you.' | UT Permian Basin speaks on virtual tour

One year ago, UTPB rolled out a new customized virtual tour that allows students and their families to explore the campus.

ODESSA, Texas — The University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) is staying ahead of today's technology by switching over to artificial intelligence and virtual features to better equip their students.

One year ago, UTPB rolled out a new customized virtual tour that allows students and their families to explore the campus and choose what they want to be able to see based on their interest.

So far, it has been a success with 4,000 visitors who visited the site.

UTPB is excited to become a common app school where it's easier to apply for college.

"What's great about it is it certainly is a fantastic recruiting tool for people that maybe are too far to drive to campus. But what we're also learning is that many of our local folks start out checking us out on the virtual tour," said Dr. Becky Spurlock, the senior vice president for student affairs at UTPB. "And then [they] maybe use the virtual tour to decide I am excited about UTPB and I want to come to campus and see more. [With] everybody's busy schedules, it just works for you."

Spurlock went on to say that it is available in English and Spanish.

The admissions process for UTPB will start in the summer and fall of 2025.
