ODESSA, Texas — A 2023 West Odessa murder suspect, Omar Matthew Gutierrez, and his brother, Omar Elijah Gutierrez, were arrested for robbing a man on the northside of the Odessa High School campus on Tuesday, according to arrest records.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by NewsWest 9, on Monday night, April 15, the Odessa Police Department spoke with an alleged assault victim who said when he was walking near the northside of the Odessa High School campus at approximately 12:11 on Monday, he heard his name being called out. That is when he turned around and saw a Gray Cadillac pulling up to him.
According to the affidavit, the alleged victim recognized Omar Matthew Gutierrez and his brother Omar Elijah Gutierrez step out of the car. The Gutierrez brothers along with another then allegedly assaulted the victim.
The alleged victim described the assault as being punched while laying on the ground. The alleged victim sustained scratches and contusions, according to the affidavit.
The Gutierrez brothers and another allegedly stole a gold necklace and a brown leather belt and buckle.
According to the affidavit, there was video footage posted to a social media outlet by Omar Elijah Gutierrez shortly after the incident that showed him sitting in the backseat of a Cadillac wearing a gold necklace while saying, "new chain". The social media post showed Omar Matthew Gutierrez as the driver of the Cadillac. The other suspect was in the video holding a brown leather belt and buckle.
According to the affidavit, a further investigation by OPD revealed that previous interactions with the three suspects have them associated with a silver 2007 Cadillac that matched the description of the vehicle in the alleged robbery.
According to surveillance footage, it showed a Cadillac going northbound on Golder Ave. from West 8th St. at approximately 1:12 p.m. Monday, about an hour after the alleged robbery.
Other social media posts shortly after showed Omar Elijah Gutierrez and the third suspect still wearing the items they allegedly stole.
Based on information gathered throughout the investigation, warrants were issued for Omar Matthew Gutierrez and Omar Elijah Gutierrez. The third suspect is still being looked for by OPD.
The Gutierrez brothers were arrested and charged with robbery early Tuesday morning. Both of their bonds have been currently set at $100,000.
Omar Matthew Gutierrez still has an upcoming trial for capital murder that occurred in January 2023 in West Odessa at a Bush's Chicken. Omar Matthew Gutierrez is accused of murdering a 15-year-old.
