A 59-year-old man is accused of setting multiple fires in Odessa on New Year's Day

Marlon Stewart was arrested for arson after being suspected of setting multiple fires on New Year's Day in Odessa. He has been booked into the Ector County Jail.

ODESSA, Texas — The Odessa Police Department have arrested 59-year-old Marlon Stewart in reference to an arson investigation.

According to OPD, officers and Odessa Fire Rescue were called to the area of Sam Houston Ave. at 5:30 a.m. on New Year's Day in reference to several fires. Then, officials received another call where a fire had charred the back of a building and burned an AT&T box in the 400 block of North Lee Ave. 

Based on surveillance footage from the property owners, Stewart was identified and accused of setting multiple fires. He has been arrested for arson and was transported to the Ector County Jail where he remains on a $25,000 bond as of Wednesday. 

OPD says there are no reports of injuries. 

More charges against Stewart are anticipated and the investigation continues.
