MIDLAND, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety - West Texas Region (DPS) conducted a mass operation between Wednesday, Oct. 16 and Friday, Oct. 18, leading to 853 vehicles being apprehended.
The operation was done by DPS' Highway Patrol and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Troopers.
The operation was to help in the effort to reduce car crashes and remove unsafe commercial vehicle drivers off the highways in the Permian Basin.
According to DPS, troopers emphasized on those violations that cause drivers to be distracted while driving. Those violations include the prohibited use of cell phones in school zones, especially in rural communities, as well as those who violate the move-over slow-down law.
