Another smuggling attempt foiled in Brewster County

Joe Anthony Hernandez and Andrea Leann Williams were both charged with smuggling of persons. Hernandez was additionally charged with driving without a license.

BREWSTER COUNTY, Texas — Two people were charged as of Wednesday morning for smuggling two people "illegally in the United States from Mexico" Tuesday night, according to a Brewster County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) Facebook post.

Joe Anthony Hernandez was charged originally Tuesday night for driving without a license after he was stopped, BCSO said. It was also reported that two people fled from the scene of the traffic stop.

According to the post, additional charges were filed Wednesday morning against Hernandez for smuggling of persons after the two people that fled the scene, "illegally in the United States from Mexico," were found.

During the initial investigation, a female accomplice Andrea Leann Williams was released from the scene. However, it was later determined that Williams was involved in the smuggling attempt.

A warrant was issued for her arrest and Wednesday morning she was found at a hotel in Alpine. She was charged with two counts of smuggling of persons.
