BIG SPRING, Texas — According to a recent post on the Big Spring Police Department Facebook page, on April 18, officers from the Big Spring Police Department responded to an assault incident at a DK Convenience store, where they found 41-year-old Kelleigh Smith after he had allegedly been attacked by 20-year-old Tenor Williford with a blunt object at a residence in the 1600 block of S. Main.
Smith initially declined medical treatment but later sought care and was transferred to UMC Lubbock due to the severity of his injuries.
The officers then responded to the residence in which the assault had occurred and conducted a preliminary investigation, where they arrested Williford on an outstanding warrant for cruelty to animals at 11 p.m. Police were also able to find the suspected blunt object used in the assault.
Detectives secured an arrest warrant for Williford for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a Felony 2 offense.
On April 26, it was reported that Smith later died as a result of the injuries on and that an autopsy would be conducted on May 1.
Williford was then charged with Smith’s murder and arrested, he is currently held on a $500,000 bond.
The investigation remains ongoing, with no additional details released at this time.
