BIG SPRING, Texas — Colten Hughes, 26, has been indicted for allegedly murdering his grandmother, 67-year-old Leah Hughes, in December of 2023, according to the Big Spring Police Department on Friday.
Back on December 27, 2023, Leah Hughes was found dead in her residence in the 1800 block of Brent Dr. BSPD officers said her death was because of "fall causing injury", according to an investigation. Two days later, medical examiners said Leah Hughes died because of a gunshot wound.
After weeks of investigating by the BSPD Criminal Investigations Division, they arrested a man who they suspect killed Leah Hughes. On Feb. 6, Colten Hughes was charged with her murder.
At this time, NewsWest 9 does not know of any upcoming trials, but are working to gather more information.
